About Mamas 2 B

Purpose of the Mamas 2 B Blog

The Mamas 2 B blog provides pregnant women with information on prenatal care. It aims to answer questions like:
  • Why do I need prenatal care?
  • When should I make my first appointment?
  • What will happen when I go to the doctor’s?
  • What should I be eating?
  • Is there anything I need to avoid?
  • And so on!

Overview of the Mamas 2 B Intervention

The Mamas 2 B program helps pregnant, economically disadvantaged women in Baltimore City get prenatal care. There are several parts to the program.
  • Pregnant women who visit health clinics will be given an info packet on prenatal care, including educational materials and resources for setting up and attending appointments
  • A mobile health van travels to different locations in the city and offers pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and blood tests for the initial prenatal appointment.
  • Volunteers give women rides to their doctor’s appointments
  • Nurses visit women at home biweekly to provide medical support, monitor the pregnancy, and answer any questions.
  • Volunteer “mommy mentors” in their community, who have been pregnant under similar economic circumstances, will provide emotional support and increase participants’ self-confidence that they can take good care of themselves and give birth to a healthy baby.
